The aim of this course is to develop the learner's knowledge and understanding of self-harming behaviours.
This course begins by explaining what self-harm is (and isn’t) and explains the prevalence of self-harm amongst different groups of people. The course also explains the risk factors and warning signs of self-harming behaviours.
In topic two you will learn about the reasons that individuals self-harm and what factors make an individual more vulnerable to the behaviour.
The final topic gives information about the best ways to respond to an individual, and the different types of self help and support strategies an individual can implement to minimise the risks to their self-harm. You will also learn what support and services are available for an individual who self-harms.
The course also outlines the importance of protecting yourself as a care or support worker when supporting an individual who self-harms.
